Music Therapy-DIR 300: Fostering Advanced Levels of Musical-Emotional Developmental Capacities

This is an advanced practicum-based course designed for music therapists who have successfully completed the MT-DIR 200 and/or DIR 201 courses. Following the completion of this course, participants will receive a certificate of proficiency and Developmental Relationship-based Music therapy.

This course provides participants with opportunities to develop their musical-clinical competencies in order to help clients foster musical-emotional/developmental capacities III, IV and V (musical adaption/2-way purposeful reciprocal communication, musical engagement/creating ideas and musical interrelatedness/bridging ideas).

Pre-requisite courses: MT-DIR 200 or DIR 201

During the course, each participant will provide 1-2 brief case study presentation/s as means of illustrating the application of DIR-based music therapy principles and concepts in action within the context of  musical-emotional/developmental capacities III, IV and V.

The course requires participants to provide 1 to 2 brief case studies that will demonstrate the clinical application of DIR-MT principals in assessment and treatment. Participants will also engage in self-reflective  and clinical discussion with the group In order to enhance the level, depth and knowledge of DIR-based music therapy practice.

This course is facilitated by  John Carpente, Ph.D., MT-BC, LCAT, DIR-C. Dr. Carpente is a credentialed DIRFloortime provider and is recognized by the Interdisciplinary Council of Development and Learning (ICDL) as an Expert DIRFloortime Clinician and Trainer.
