Guitar Lesson Packages for Music Therapists

Guitar packages are a set of 4 (four) 1:1 30-minute lessons focused on specific topical areas that are taught within a music therapy context. Each lesson will provide you with a specific practice plan, lesson materials and recording of each meeting for participants to review.  

Barre Chord Package: 

Learn 5th and 6th string root barre chords (Major, Minor and Dominant 7ths). You will learn proper hand position and practice techniques in order play barre chords up and down the guitar neck. 

Prerequisite: ability to freely play open string chords in the first position such as C, D, E minor, etc.

Functional Harmony Package:

Learn how to apply basic functional harmony on the guitar within chordal frameworks. Participants will learn the functions of major, minor and dominant 7th chords in a practical  and applicable manner. Players will also learn how and when to substitute chords within a chord progression and how to re-harmonize tunes. 

Prerequisite: ability to play open string and barre chords (5th and 6th string root Major, Minor and Dominant 7 chords.  

Modal Guitar Package 

Players will learn 3 modes on the guitar such as Dorian, Lydian and Mixolydian. Lessons will focus on 2- octave scales, fingering, crafting melodies and understanding how to apply chordal structures to support melodic themes within each mode. In addition, players will explore the use of voice to support the guitar within the context of each mode.

Prerequisite: ability to play open string and barre chords (5th and 6th string root Major, Minor and Dominant 7 chords.
